The one with the goodbye…

2023 has been a transitional year, and I am sure we all agree on that. I see people online talk about how this year has helped them get clarity and change for the better. Truth be told, I couldn’t agree more.

This was the year that was treated as an escape from 2022, and it truly served its purpose. People got over everything that the past had provided, healed, and helped each other in real life and on social media. This year, I learnt to balance. I realized the importance of it. I started home schooling in September 2022, in the early days I tried very hard for a routine lifestyle and ended falling into a school like pattern. Then I let go of everything and I could get nothing done, it felt like 2 extremes that pressed me from both sides. By the end of the year, I decided to change, I channeled my social media accounts, my room and my devices to be more goal oriented but also mind my hobbies. I realized this helped me keep more focus than usual.

I also learnt, asking for help is not a bad thing. When I started the blog, I did not want any help, so I could not get anything done. Once my teacher stepped in, I got everything in line. We need to understand we are not amazing at everything and people who know better will only do us some good.

Lastly, I realized I am only a regular human being, life is not going to be what they show online. I have to work, I have emotions, my skin is not always flawless, gloomy days are normal and I have too many aspects to life to be able to fit into an aesthetic like people online. They are only projecting a side of their life; I have to live mine wholly. I learned to normalize being a person who needed to channel a different personality for different places. Not in a toxic manner, but to be able to enjoy thoroughly in every area and atmosphere. I normalized being human and dropped my standards to ‘realistic’.

Considering everything I learnt this year; I made some New Year resolutions.

  • Be more balanced. [Avoid extremes]
  • Ask for help, it ‘helps.
  • Be ok with being ‘real’.

These are my thoughts and take aways from/about 2023 and I hope you could find something for yourself in it too. If you did or our resolutions match, I hope by the time 2024 ends, we will have achieved together. If you don’t share my thoughts on this year and have different resolutions, I hope 2024 is what you need it to be.

Happy New Year!!!!!!

Love,

Janhavi B.
