Going beyond: Food recommendations For those looking to explore [a bit]

If there is one thing about me that anyone who knows me will tell you, it is that I love food. Just absolutely LOVE it; I spend the most on food and am always trying to explore with food.

I grew up in a family that spent a lot of time thinking about food and eating or cooking food. Naturally, it was enforced in me to never say no without trying. That has helped me discover cuisines and foods I could never have imagined liking.

I am always up to trying almost anything. But I realize that’s not case for everybody. You might be a picky eater, or didn’t have similar exposure. Now, I’m no expert. But today I want to share some foods that I believe almost anyone can like if they try it.

So here are a few foods that I think can suit most pallets, if you want to try something new, but stay safe.

  1. Buldak Carbonara – When I say everyone [who eats chicken] around me has liked this, I am not even lying. Especially if you like spicy foods, that have a lot of heat but don’t taste spicy; this is perfect. It has sweet undernotes, to really give it that perfect mix. The reason I said carbonara is because, it isn’t extremely spicy, and has a creamy mouthfeel that just feels clean on the tongue.
  2. Biryani – This may feel like a biased recommendation, but if that biryani is packed with flavour and spices, so it can feel overwhelming when you aren’t used to it. But just because of that, don’t let yourself succumb to flavourless and pale versions. Any good biryani has to have protein, loads of flavour, and be layered [Dum].
  3. Bibimbap – Hear me out; this may sound a bit niche, but it’s actually a really palatable dish. It is rice, gochujang, soy sauce, kimchi [optional], and a variety of vegetables. You can add almost anything you like to it, and just mix it all. Of course, I am not a Korean, but the bibimbap I have had so far is always fun to eat and easy to alter to my tastes.
  4. Dosas – This is a very typical south Indian dish that is eaten all over the country. It can be called one of India’s favourite foods if I’m being honest. Dosas are like thin [ crispy or soft] rice pancakes, enjoyed with sambar [a light, spicy curry with vegetables] and maybe a coconut chutney. Dosas don’t taste like much by themselves, which is why they can be and are often paired with a variety of condiments.
  5. Kimchi – I am going to be very honest; this is not everyone’s cup of tea. BUT. I also believe that there is a type of kimchi for everyone. There is fresh, tangy kimchi or pungent kimchi. There is kimchi that is highly fermented and kimchi meant to be eaten fresh. Some of these are more commercially available than others, but you can make some of the easier versions yourself.

These were my top 5 foods that almost anyone can enjoy in my opinion. Especially if they want to try something new, while not being too adventurous.

Please keep in mind that I am not learning in the nutrition sector or have any qualification. My suggestions are only intended towards people that want to expand their horizon without getting too crazy. Because as you may have noticed, these are almost all pretty mainstream foods.

I really hope you find something new to test and experiment with.

Hoping her recommendations actually get you somewhere,

Janhavi ❤
