Does life truly provide meaning? Or is it just an escape from death for the mere mortal. As I lead my life and you lead yours, we both go out in search of an Ikigai. Mine is different and so is yours, but both are meanings to our respective lives. So, when we say, meaning of life, we talk about something clearly subjective. Yet, when we are asked about it, we compare it with each other’s. So, essentially, life in itself has no meaning, but subjectively we all have our reasons to live. While those who still search, take life as an escape, a reason to delay, death. With what that being the only goal for many, life turns grey. But for the lucky few, life is an adventure, a journey towards the destination of death. In my view, life does not have a ‘goal’ or something to work towards. Something you do, that will mark your purpose fulfilled may not even exist. So, when you go out, you do not work towards only with. I write to help me get through the journey of life.
To draw an image of it in your mind, imagine you are on a long road trip. To be able to last throughout the trip you play music, sleep read and take pit stops. Without these entertainers you would rather prefer to take a short cut to your destination. Many people think, life is the journey and the destination, a particular goal or purpose to fulfil. Despite this opinion being what I though earlier myself, as I grow into a separate individual, my opinion differs. I would put it that life is your journey, entertainment your passion, pit-stops your goals/achievements and destination death. More simply, to me, an Ikigai, is more of a walking stick that helps you complete the journey from point A to point B. And motivates you to not give up. So, yes. According to me, life has no meaning or purpose in the way we think. Although, there can be a reason as to why you complete your destined journey; and don’t take short cuts to reach your destination.
My Ikigai or reason to live life fully, are words. They are the reason I wake up every day and look forward to life. So I hope you find your Ikigai too.
Love,
Janhavi B.
