The green owl is back in my life, and I’m trying to learn French for the nth time. I wont boast about my 18-day streak with only 1 freeze.
I have tried everything I can to free myself of the troubles of humanoids.
But, alas! My exams have not allowed for that. I have my last paper tomorrow and then viva la freedom. Are we ever really free though?
Or are we all a bunch of Americans, happy with our illusions?
These days, I have become far more existentialist than I used to be. Maybe it is only because of everything going on. Or maybe, the soul of some old philosopher has possessed me.
Anyway, I wanted to tell you about everything I have been doing to avoid wanting to lock myself up and sleep for days.
I finished reading ‘The Soyangri Bookshop’, it took me longer than usual, but I liked it a lot. The writing feels like the first snow fall of a child’s life. Seeing the soft white blanket build itself with little presents from the skies. I will review it soon, but I need some time to really process it. Like a good wine, it needs to be stored in my mind for a while before I produce my opinions for you.
I started ‘Days at the Torunka Café’, but it didn’t sit right with me right now. Maybe I’ll finish it when I finally go on my long-awaited trip soon.
In place of it, I am now reading ‘The Healing Hippo of Hinode Park’. A fresh cold sip of iced tea in sparkling water on the hottest march day. I can’t explain how much I am loving this book. I am so excited to write a review about it, I might post it before I finish the book. But, I am so close to finishing it, the chances of that are low.
I haven’t watched as many movies as I would have liked to, but I watched two, and for someone who is currently giving exams, that is a good number.
I watched ‘Knives Out’, which I liked, but I found a few jokes to be unnecessarily sexual and forced. I liked the plot, the ending did leave me a bit shocked, but not in ways I had expected, so it was a good movie. Especially if you liked Poirot as a kid, or just like Christie’s books in general. Its fun, and surprisingly cosy.
Then I watched ‘Band Baja Baraat’ with Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh. It’s fun, cheesy, quick and entertaining. It may not have a very large, serious moral, but what Bollywood movies do very well is remind you that everything goes well in the end, and if it doesn’t, it’s probably not the end.
Then, I watched two of Dhanus’s most successful movies, but that was before my exams and a topic for another day.
I spend all my time either studying, writing, or chatting with my friends, which leaves in my opinion, little time for me to sit and really dive into a book entirely.
So, I am definitely looking forward to winter break.
As for now, I can only think to finish all my work before winter break. Because all I want for Christmas is a good mystery and tea.
Love,
Janhavi
